Understanding Executive Function: A two part workshop series

LDAYR Summer Workshop Series for Parents

Executive Functions are the brain processes that enable us to regulate the world around us, utilizing organizational and higher-order learning skills. Research demonstrates that Executive Function is a better predictor of school performance than a student’s IQ. Development of these skills are essential for success in school and later in life.

These workshops are designed for parents, guardians and caregivers of children and young adults who struggle with Executive Function Disorder.

PART ONE: Understanding Executive Function – July 17, 2013 – 7pm-9pm

This workshop will help parents, guardians and caregivers of students with Executive Function deficits better understand:

  • What are Executive Functions
  • The impact of Executive Function deficits; academic, social and emotional
  • How to coach someone with Executive Function deficits
  • The impact of Executive Function at home and in school
  • Effective strategies to support and manage individuals with Executive Function deficits

PART TWO: Executive Function and ADHD – Aug 14, 2013 – 7pm-9pm

This workshop will help parents, guardians and caregivers of students with Executive Function and ADHD deficits better understand:

  • What are ADHD and self-regulation
  • The symptoms of ADHD
  • How ADHD and self-regulation are linked to Executive Function
  • How ADHD impacts Executive Function
  • Current science-based research information about ADHD
  • Strategies that help

Denise Harding is a certified and professional academic coach at Evoke Learning and a consultant with the Learning Disabilities Association of York Region.

Cost:
$65 per workshop, non-LDAYR members
$50 per workshop, LDAYR members
