Beginning Summer 2013 – Tuesdays and Thursdays
A social group for individuals with ASD, including Asperger’s and High-Functioning Autism
The Evoke Social Space (ESS) is premised on the belief that individuals with ASD are better able to understand and relate to one another than to others. Because of this, social interactions between individuals with ASD should be encouraged and facilitated.
The goal of the ESS is to provide a place where individuals with ASD can come together to dialogue, feel supported, and ultimately, find friendship.
The ESS is not a social skills group designed to “fix” or “cure” those with ASD but rather a space in which individuals can be themselves and meet others with life experiences, interests and communication styles similar to their own.
The ESS will serve as a forum for members to talk about day-today challenges and social difficulties, receive support and suggestions, and get helpful feedback from their peers and Evoke facilitators.
The Evoke Social Space meets twice weekly. ESS members are also invited to attend a monthly off-site group activity in and around Toronto.
Off-site activities change each month to meet the interests of the ESS group members. They take in many of the sights and attractions of Toronto, provide social support, ensure member security and safety, and provide fun through group activity.
FORMAT: The Evoke Social Space (ESS) is comprised of:
- 2 weekly 1.5-hour meetings,for a total of 3 hours per week, held on-site at Evoke Learning
- 1 monthly off-site facilitated group. All groups meetings and outings are facilitated by two Evoke staff members, providing a ratio of 4:1.
LOCATION: Evoke Learning, 1407 Yonge St., conveniently located one block south of St. Clair subway.
