Do you have a learning disability?

Is it hard for you to focus on schoolwork or things you don’t enjoy?

Ryerson University and the Child Development Institute (Integra Program) are investigating the effectiveness of a program that uses martial arts to improve attention, worries and behaviour in youth with learning disabilities.

We are looking for youth who:

  • Are 12-18 years old
  • Have a diagnosis of a learning disability
  • Experience challenges with attention, behaviour, impulse control, and/or anxiety

What is involved?

  • You will attend 2 testing sessions (3 hours) over a 20 week period.
  • You will complete computer games while we record brain electrical activity (EEGs) by placing a cap on their scalp.
  • You will complete a brief interview and questionnaires about emotions and behaviour.
  • Parents will complete questionnaires at each visit.

No treatment will be provided during the study period.

Participants, however, may be eligible to access services at Integra (such as MMA) after the second research visit.

What compensation is provided?

$50 honorarium to cover expenses related to participation ($25 per session)
